모질라 재단의 Weave 플랫폼을 Firefox에서 사용할 수 있습니다. 우선 화면을 보시죠.




Weave 플랫폼(http://labs.mozilla.com/2007/12/introducing-weave/)은 2007년 12월부터 모질라 재단이 진행중인 프로젝트입니다.

Weave는 firefox에서 기본적으로 제공되는 password manager를 고도화시키기 위한 플랫폼으로 생각됩니다. id/pw 뿐만 아니라 OpenID도 한번 내외의 클릭만으로 제공합니다. 또한 패스워드, 북마크, 히스토리 같은 정보를 클라우드(cloud) 환경에 업로드하여 어디서든지 사용할 수 있습니다.

The new login method lets users log in to an OpenID supporting site or a traditional username/password site with one or zero clicks. It's a password manager, essentially, but it looks like an especially smooth one from one of the most trusted vendors online. And it syncs with the cloud so you could log in to your browser and then your favorite sites from any computer. It looks real nice.

특징을 자세히 설명해보면 다음과 같습니다.

• provide a basic set of optional Mozilla-hosted online services
• ensure that it is easy for people to set up their own services with freely available open standards-based tools
• provide users with the ability to fully control and customize their online experience, including whether and how their data should be shared with their family, their friends, and third-parties
• respect individual privacy (e.g. client-side encryption by default with the ability to delegate access rights)
• leverage existing open standards and propose new ones as needed
• build a extensible architecture like Firefox

Weave의 컨셉은 다음과 같습니다. 지금까지는 로컬에 설치된 Firefox에 모든 정보를 저장해 두었지만, Weave는 Cloud에 저장된 FIrefox 정보야 말로 Your Firefox라고 말합니다. 언제 어디서든지 나의 Firefox를 사용할 수 있게 되는 것입니다. API 또한 제공되기 때문에 이를 이용한 새로운 서비스가 제공될 수도 있습니다.

핵심 기능은 다음과 같습니다.

* Basic framework and server-side component for testing and experimentation of Weave concepts
* Authentication with a single online service provider (i.e. labs.mozilla.com)
* Bookmark and history synchronization to the server from multiple clients
* Default encryption of all user data with a placeholder algorithm (while we sort through legal and technical issues)
