·        Information Card Foundation(ICF) adds seven international members to its growing list of founding members.

·        ICF announced in June 2008 itsmission to advance the information card metaphor as a key component of an openinteroperable identity layer spanning both the enterprise and the Internet.

·        Far more user controlover personal information is a primary goal for ICF members.

·        User benefits include:

o   All of an individual’s usernames and passwords can be replaced with one or more Information Cards.

o   Web users no longer mustorganize multiple “User Names and Passwords” for bank accounts, credit cardaccounts, retirement accounts, mortgages, and their favorite community sites orshopping sites.

o   Web users decide who they sharedata with and which types of information they choose to share.

o   Users have more control tominimize distribution of their personal data.

o   Users enjoy higher levels ofsecurity.

o   Businesses will enjoy lowerfraud rates and fewer “type-B” errors – denying credit to credit worthycustomers.

o   Frictionless commerce – instantlogin for repeat and new customers.

·        Information Cards (infocards“i-cards” or just ‘cards’):

o   Takea familiar offline consumer behavior – using a card to prove identity andprovide information – and bring it to the online world.

o   Are card-shaped pictures, that allow a user to assert informationabout themselves (login, password, age, credit worthiness, address), and insome instances verify personal information by a trusted 3rd party(credit bureau, bank).

·        As part of its affiliationswith other organizations, The Information Card Foundation has been approved asa working group of Identity Commons, a communitydriven organization promoting the creation of an open identity layer for theInternet while encouraging the development of healthy, interoperablecommunities.
